Is there a way to add text to a conditional format?

    Hi,

is there a way to have a cell display a certain text if it is empty?

i.e. i would like all the blank rows in a section of my spreadsheet to have a grey fill and display the text "Please input your description here" if the cell is blank.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

    Thanks

If the cell is "EMPTY" it has nothing to display. If you want default text enter the text and it will be replaced when the cell is filled with the required data. Another way is to use Text Boxes (Active X control)

    Thanks!

Decided to just go with manually typing in 'Please input description here' and then doing a conditional format that would highlight the cells which contain that line of text.

    Hi Willem,

The VBN code is really close to what I'm looking for but I need it to work on perhaps a few hundred cells in my reporting tool, or a whole column. would VBN work for that? I tried with a bit of guess work to use the code in the file you shared but couldn't figure it out.

    Thanks

You have pretty much hit the nail on the head there for me - thank you! ...one thing I can't figure out is how/where you set the formatting for the the 'default'/'blank' text?

It's not mentioned in the VBA code nor in any conditional formatting text that I could find...can't be magic either!

If I don't hear back from you however, many thanks indeed for your help so far, really appreciated...and for the correction on VBA.
