Question Building a Comparison tool... possible?

Hi Guys,

I was asked to create an Excel version of this sharepoint/infopath thingy I did a while ago. I think that once ready Excel is much better suited for a thing like this, but I never did anything with advanced layouts and such in Excel.
Is this possible to do? What are my keywords to search?

(screenshot attached)

Many thanks!

short explanation:
you can select 3 products and put them side by side. When you select a product it pulls in the data for that product from another list. Data labels in the blue column.
The three dropdown boxes are used for filtering products. (select a brand, select a type, and then the third dropdown box only shows products with that brand and type)

Perfectly possible. Data validation, dynamic named ranges, lookups, filters... there are several ways it could be done, depending on your data structure and specific outcome requirements.

Worst thread title and attachment EVER, though.

Your post does not comply with Rule 1 of our Forum RULES. Your post title should accurately and concisely describe your problem, not your anticipated solution.

Use terms appropriate to a Google search. Poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice will be addressed according to the OP's experience in the forum: If you have less than 10 posts, expect (and respond to) a request to change your thread title. If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.

To change a Title on your post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title, if 2 days have passed ask a moderator to do it for you.

(This thread should receive no further responses until this moderation request is fulfilled, as per Forum Rule 7)

Thanks guys. Title changed... Just want to solve my problem here.

What information do you need from me? Unfortunately I can't share a screenshot that contains actual data .

Hi and welcome to the forum!

What's going on with that attachment? Does the "blurred" in the filename suggest you knew it was actually of that quality, but decided to post it anyway? If so, and looking at it again, how would you rate that picture in terms of its effectiveness at supporting your query?

Kindly attach an actual spreadsheet.

Hi Xor

My question is about rebuilding something that's not a spreadsheet into a spreadsheet, so I can't attach one for you. For the moment I can only add visualisations of the problem

Thanks!

Still doesn't help. It gives no clues as to your data structure / hierarchies / location / content. We could be here all day offering vague suggestions which may or may not match your data.

Attach a workbook please, which clearly demonstrates what data you have, and what your desired outcome is.

Thumbs up Re: Building a Comparison tool... possible?

This works very well, however there is one problem: I'm building this tool to show in a Sharepoint page. For reasons unknown to me, Sharepoint does not support data validation (used for the dropdown list) in their Excel web part.
Would anyone be able to dish up an alternative?

edit - nevermind solved.
