How a picture is inserted when the rank formula is calculated to the highest competitor?

    Here is an example:

    \1

On the total column, notice a star beside a player's row? It is intended for someone who has the highest score.

Now, how is that done with Excel? Because the star could be placed in any player row, and not just there.

I have seen this happened in another table, but I couldn't locate it, I'm sorry.

Thanks in advance for helping me!

Have you checked if there is any macro running in the background?

    A VBA code(programming).
Go to Developer tab and click macros otherwise post your workbook.

I just noticed that I need to pay for Excel for enabling macros, I'm just using Starter 2010. URGH FRUSTRATION!

    Thanks anyways.

    The file extension is .xlsx

It is used to open Word Starter 2010 by default. So I have the Excel program pinned into the taskbar, so I open the Excel files through that.

OK thenm there is no vba running, the file would beed to be saved in .xlsm format to have VBA.

I am unable to open pic files here (company firewall), can you upload the workbook (as long as there is no sensitive data in it)?

Re: How a picture is inserted when the rank formula is calculated to the highest competito

My computer reads it as .xlsm before, but it got corrupted some how and I don't know how to revert it. It happened long ago so system restore can't help me.

Excel file (different excel file since I'm applying this situation onto this table: http://www.mediafire.com/download/lp...+Template.xlsx

Re: How a picture is inserted when the rank formula is calculated to the highest competito

It's excel that can or cannot read .xlsm files, not the computor. From excel 2007 onwards, the file format was changed, and you would need to "enable" macros for excel to be able to open a file containing macros - and a file with macros can only be saved as .xlsm. You may have had excel 2007 or 2010 and had macros enabled then.

Also, please upload the workbook to the forum, as not all members (myself included) can access file-hosting sites

To attach a file to your post,
click advanced (next to quick post),
scroll down until you see "manage file",
click that and select "add files" (top right corner).
click "select files" find your file, click "open" click "upload" click 'done" bottom right. click "submit reply"

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window.
You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.

Re: How a picture is inserted when the rank formula is calculated to the highest competito

Does macros even work in Excel Starter 2010? If it does not work, why bother?

I am thankful for what you are trying to do, and no disrespect here as well.

Also, could I change .xlsx to .xlsm?

Re: How a picture is inserted when the rank formula is calculated to the highest competito

I know you mean no disrespect

If you cannot enable macros, then you cannot open the file...and therefore cannot use macros. But VBA/macros are an integral part of Office, so I presume that when you buy the licence, they throw a "switch" and you can then use macros. A lot of complex programs will let you use a freebie, but with restrictions on some of the more advanced features (just to get you hooked, I guess?), and will enable those features when you pay them.

I doubt you can save as .xlsm in the trial version of 2010 (never had it, so never needed to try), but you could try it by using file/save as/save as type/macro-enabled. Although if you cannot use them, I dont see a need to do this?

On the total column, notice a star beside a player's row? It is intended for someone who has the highest score.
I dont think that came through onteh sample you provided?
