Question Copied excel cells shows a different value when pasted to a notepad

I am pretty sure I encountered this weird thing about excel before but I forgot how i resolved it or the reason why it was that say. For instance, cell A1 contains the world apple (this actual word is also shown on the formula bar) but when i pasted it to a notepad, it became "apple" (including the quotation marks). Any idea why that is so and what's the quickest and simplest solution?
