Worksheet operations absurdly slow

    Hi all,

I'm working in a spreadsheet with ~75 tabs that is ~23mb. Adding, deleting, or even moving a worksheet takes at least 5 minutes, and that time seems almost exponential to manipulate multiple tabs at once (e.g. deleting 8 tabs may take 30 minutes). While this is occurring, my computer seems to be working fine, and I have plenty of RAM (6g) and CPU power (2.5 Ghz). Opening and saving/closing the spreadsheet doesn't take an abnormal amount of time.

Any idea what might be causing this?

    Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the forum

Almost impossible to say without seeing what you are working with . However, having 75 tabs seems extremely excessive?? Im sure there are other ways to do what you are doing
    1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

Nothing too complicated. I'm modeling out a retail company -- each tab represents a single store and then I have a consolidation tab which uses Sum(First:Last). Pretty standard for how it's done in the industry and much easier to work with than the alternative (a single tab with stores presented vertically). Specifically actions on tabs take an excessive period of time...not opening, not calculations, not row/column manipulation...

Given that you are using 3D formulas, the structure of each sheet is the same. So, how many rows, how many columns, how many formulas on each sheet? Do you have formulas that "prepare" the row for input, for example, =IF(A2="","",...) ? Are the formulas simple, complex, array formulas? Do you have a lot of formatting? Do you have a lot of Conditional Formatting? Is the "last used cell" further down and/or across the sheet than the actual data? Do you switch calculation to manual when you delete the sheets?

Can you give us a sample workbook with a couple of sheets and the summary sheet to review?

    Regards, TMS

This sounds like a candidate for VBA, perhaps you're formula bound??

Volatile formulas, e.g., INDIRECT and OFFSET?

Full-column references where they aren't needed?
