Protected Table acts as normal sheet- VBA useless

I have a Table with a formula that gives a unique ID. This is useful because when I go to the next row, another unique ID is created.

When I protect the column with the formula containing the unique ID, the Table converts to an ordinary spreadsheet. Hence (1) when I go to the next row, the formula is not there (2) other formulas in my workbook, referring to this Table, no longer work.

I cannot use VBA to turn the protection on/off, as it needs to be always on, else it would be possible to manually change the ID.

    Thank you for your assistance.
