Turning General Numbers into Time and Minutes and Multiplying for Month

    Good morning,

I run a report from a scheduling software that gives me the total hours and minutes for a weekday for my bus routes. For instance, 253 hours and 23 minutes for one day. Now though, I need to calculate how many hours and minutes for the entire month. The report will only come out with 253h23. I need to somehow take that, turn it into time and then multiply it by 20 (January weekdays). But I need real hours and minutes and I'm having trouble getting them. I'm sure it can't be as difficult as I'm making it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    shg,
Thank you for replying so quickly. Let me make sure I understand this correctly, the end result being in column D is the time shown, 253h20 times 20? So the function SUBSTITUTE will convert the h to hours? What about the minutes?
A bus route can be that many hours long because 12 buses run it and it's a total distance of 2515 miles when you add them all together. Palm Beach county has the most square mileage of any county in FL.

So the function SUBSTITUTE will convert the h to hours?
The SUBSTITUTE function replaces the h with a colon, which makes it look like a time, which Excel converts to an actual time.

Let me make sure I understand this correctly, the end result being in column D is the time shown, 253h20 times 20?
Multiply it out by hand and check it.

I did and that's where I seem to be hitting a snag. I get the 5060 hours. It's the minutes that catch me. I'm getting 460 minutes which equal to 7.66 hours. I essentially I'm getting 5068 hours. (rounded) Please explain to an old lady here just what I'm missing. Thanks shg.

Re: Turning General Numbers into Time and Minutes and Multiplying for Month

    20 * 253 = 5060 hours

    20 * 23 = 460 minutes = 7 hours 40 minutes

    5060 hours + 7 hours 40 minutes = 5067 hours 40 minutes

That's the result the formula gives.
