    Merging cells vertically

    Hi all,
So today I was given a job by the mother to convert bank statements into csv format for her as she is a bookkeeper, I used an OCR program to transfer the data over as it is something like 3000 lines total, the only problem is now that all the different entries are like this

    Date part of description amount
    Part of description
    Part of description

And I need it to be
    Date description amount

You can understand I'm not looking forward to the process of copy and pasting several thousand lines so I was wondering if there was a different way

So cell a is date cell b-b3 is description and cell c is amount, I need to find a quick way to turn cell b-b3 into just b and apply it over the whole sheet for multiple transactions

I hope I wrote this clear enough
    Look forward to your answers

    Boongfoot, Good evening.

I think the best way to do what you want is to use VBA.

BUT...while you´re waiting for a CODE, maybe you can use the formulas that I created for you. (I don´t know VBA)

    Re: Merging cells vertically

    Hi Boongfoot,

I agree with Marcilio, and the formula he proposed is similar to the approach I would have taken, so I won't post mine.

However, this assumes that every record is identical in layout. Is this the case? If not, you WILL need VBA!

Secondly, is there a blank row between records? This, of course, would change the formulas!

It would greatly help if you posted a sample workbook. (Sensitive data removed of course!)

    Regards,

    David

Please remember, your request is clearer if you attach a sample workbook.

    Re: Merging cells vertically

If you have "Date part of description amount" in multiple cells & you want "Date description amount" instead, use the replace function. With Excel 2010 it's on the Home ribbon under the Find & Select button. It'll do it in a couple of seconds.
In the Find What field enter Date part of description & in the Replace field enter Date description amount press replace all & it's done. Make yourself a copy of the workbook so you can experiment with that
