cell display #N/A when refernce book is not open.

I have a vlookup in book2 reference back to data in book1.

Everything work great except when I open book2 without open book1 the vlookup cell display "#N/A".

Is there an other way or is there an other equation that I can use that would not result in "#N/A" when book1 is not open.

    Thanks for your help.

vlookup() should work fine on closed workbooks. If you are getting #NA, it is because the data you are looking for cannot be found.

If you know for certain that the data IS there, check for training or leading spaces, and make sure values are not text
    1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

    Ford,

    Your are correct.

I just tried right now at home and it work fine with book1 close (using excel 2007) .

Would it matter what version excel I am using? I think my work place have both Excel 2003 and 2007.
