Can I merge a cell with data from aother cell(s), and then delete the other cell(s)...

... and still keep the merged data? For example, in the first row of the attached spreadsheet, I entered =A1&" "&B1 into the C1 cell to include the contents of both the A1 and B1 cells.

The A1 cell = Bill, the B1 cell = Clinton, so therefore the C1 cell = Bill Clinton.

I'd like to be able to retain the [merged] contents of C1 (Bill Clinton) but PERMANENTLY DELETE the A1 (Bill) and B1 (Clinton) cells.

    Is this possible?

    Thanks.

copy, paste special > values the contents of c1, then you can delete a1 and b1.

Thanks simarui, but you're going to have to dumb this down for me. What is it I am to copy, and where/how do I paste it? I've tried to copy A1 and B1 togetehr, but when I special paste it into C1, it goes into C1 and D1.

Sorry to be a pain, but what am I missing?

after entering your formula (=a1&" "&b1) into c1, select c1. copy and paste special>values right back on to c1. This way you'll no longer have a formula in c1, but simply the value Bill Clinton.
