    Broken Totals

Ok so I have got this spreadsheet and above every row of data it lists a total and at the very top left hand corner it lists a grand total. So now at the top of a row where a total should be there is nothing its just completely blank and now any data in those rows is no longer being counted towards the grand total. How do I fix this and does excel have a find feature like notepad for windows for looking up alphanumeric code and if it does how do I find it?

    Re: Broken Totals

    Sounds like two problems:
Hard to say what is broken, but it sounds like your equations got deleted. Do you have the original document that does work? If so, then you should be able to copy/paste the formula from the old to the new. I'll assume it should be something like: =SUM(B1:B20). Another possibility is that you may have accidentally turned of auto calculate. Does hitting the F9 key cause the correct numbers to appear?

Ctrl-F will bring up the find window. From there you can type in text to search.

Unfortunately I don't have the original document. Is there anyway to copy and paste the equations from working rows? I will try the F9 KEY soon.

    Re: Broken Totals

Yes, you can try to copy/paste. It may work, but summing is actually fairly straightforward. Tell me this: when you click on one of the cells that should have a total in it, what is displayed in the Formula Bar? (The Formula Bar is the big white rectangle just above the column headers (i.e. A, B, C, D, E,...). It should show either the value of the cell, the formula within the cell, or be blank if the cell is truly blank.). Try clicking in other cells to see what appears in the Formula Bar, but most important, I would like to know what is in the cells that should be totals.

While you are waiting for my response, you could try fixing this yourself. I am assuming that the cells where you want the totals are blank. To add a sum formula, click on the cell you wish to have the total and then type =SUM(
Next, with your mouse, select the group of cells you want for this sum. You should see something like B4:C10 appear as you drag your selection. Finally type ) and then hit enter. That should sum your range.

You may also wish to upload your document and detail exactly what you want summed in each cell. That would also allow us to ensure your blank cells are truly blank and it is not some formatting issue.
