    Insert vertical line into formula

    Hi all,

Hoping someone out there can help me!

I've been given a task to complete and am half way there but can't figure out the last part.

In the attached sheet, column 'A' has a vertical line in before the words 'redsky' I need to somehow get this vertical line in the same place in column 'G' rather than the space I currently have there, using the formula that is in there.

When you start writing a formula the insert tab becomes greyed out and this is the only other way I thought I could think of trying to insert the vertical line symbol.

Is there a keyboard shortcut for it that I could use within a formula or how else could I get column 'G' to match column 'A' exactly?

    Thanks in advance.

Errrm, I'm not sure I understand this correctly, but let me try...

The space that you currently have in column G is because you ordered Excel to insert the space there:

    =(C2&"_"&D2&" "&E2)

So if you just replace space with vertical line,

    =(C2&"_"&D2&"|"&E2)

it will appear there. I hope that's what you look for, or I missunderstood your question?

    Do you mean something like:

    =(C2&"_"&D2&"|"&E2)

    Thanks for your replies.

Yes I understand that I currently have the space in my formula where i want the vertical line but I don;t know how to get the vertical line in there instead. How do I replace the space with the vertical line? IO don;t know what I need to type on my keyboard?

Ok, forgive me for being silly, I've now found the vertical line on my keyboard but it puts a space either side of it then like this: S_BADMINTONPOLOG|REDSKY and the one in the previous file attached doesn't have spaces either side of the line.
