    Sorting data using 2 columns

Hi All, Great to know you are there.
I'm sorting data by two columns, first Estate and then by House No. However I find that the house numbers don't sort correctly. i.e in the various sorted Estate groupings there's an occasional house number out of order or mis-sorted. e.g. it would be sorted 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 15, 17, 24, 35, 6. Six being the problem.
I've checked for extra spaces before or after and that looks OK. Any suggestions.
The information I'm sorting is initially filtered on the Estate column to hide blank cells and I'm using Excel 2003
I'm not sure if I should start a new thread for this but house no's with letters e.g 125a sorts to the bottom of the numbers.

Thank you for any help offered.

    Hi Grandded,

If you see the numbers again, you will see that the numbers are not in the equal digit format due to which when you are trying to sort them, the six is coming after 35 instead of coming after 5.

EDIT - The reason being they are coming in this order because It is sorting from 1st digit, and 6 comes after three - 35.

If you make all the numbers in equal digit e.g. 001,002,003,005,006,008 etc. then there will be no sorting problem.

Thank you all, Glenn Kennedy, LokeshKumar, Nisha Dhawan, for such a speedy response.
I'll send a sample sheet shortly.
Re 001, 002 etc. I also use this workbook for an addressed envelope mail merge so that wouldn't look good.
I forgot to mention also the information being sorted in the columns mentioned is taken from another sheet in the same workbook using the function ( =box_identity!E1464)

Hi All, I've taken a closer look at the data in the source page and discovered extra spaces in the Estate column info which was causing the problem. I was looking for the problem the numbers column. Sincere apologies if I wasted your time. However it was the exercise of asking that helped concentrate.
    Thanks again.
