Quick Question About Using Autofill with Formulas

I am trying to calculate the covariance between two variables for an assignment and have been told to show the values for the variance from the mean for each period (e.g. Average of A is 0.07. In Period 1, A was 0.10, therefore I must show 0.1 - 0.07 = 0.03 within a cell. This must be done for all periods). When I type in my formula (e.g. =B2-B61, B3-B61, B4-B61, where B61 = average) for the first few periods and then try to autofill it, Excel incorrectly calculates it thinking I am wanting to move to the next cell down each time (e.g. being correct as above for the first few periods and then changing to B5-B62 and so on and so forth). How do I make Excel correctly do this with autofill, due to the fact that this would take a long time to type manually?

I've attached the file now, it's on the worksheet called Q5.1 TEST. I'm trying to get the D column to autofill.

Re: Quick Question About Using Autofill with Formulas

    Hi
Use "$" if you do not want to change the cell reference.

If your average is in "b61" use "$b$61"
    Thanks
