    Home budget spreadsheet

I made a home budget spreadsheet. As I pay bills, I color in the square. Is there a way to have the column total reduce as I color in a square?

if you had a column with paid - that could then do the two things - colour cells and also use sumif() or an IF to change a value

you have this marked as solved

I agree with @etaf that you need a "Paid" column...you could conditionally format the bill amount to change fill color if you mark the paid column....so you'd still be able to get the item colored in the way you want.

Then you could use the Sumif funciton to only sum items that aren't marked as paid.

I would definitely format my data as tables as then you can have a totals row that stays at the bottom of the table even if you add more rows (ie as more or new bills come up).

I'm with @etaf....we could definitely offer more advice if we could see what you have set up
