how to input all combinations for 6 dice

I have been looking all over for this answer. I know how to do it manually and with paper/pen, but is there a way to input the data using a formula to get all the combinations into a table where you can see them all without having to type them all in. I'm also wondering if you can just show all the combinations without duplicates as well.

Any and all help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi demonuga and welcome to the forum,

See if the attached is what you are looking for.

If you simply want a list of all possible combinations of 6 dice being rolled, there might be 6 factorial of them.

Re: how to input all combinations for 6 dice

    Hello and thanks.

Not quite. I want to know how to chat ALL possible combinations without duplicating the data and without manually inputting it all in.

Example: 2 dice have 36 (6x6) combinations. 6 dice have 46656 (6x6x6x6x6x6) combinations. How do you input ALL 46656 combinations into excel without doing it manually, it will take lots of time to do. So is there a formula to chart that?

    OK demonuga,

See the attached where I have a different answer for you.
First put a 1 in cells A1 to F1, then in A2 put this formula:

Then in B2 put this formula
Please Login or Register to view this content.
Pull this formula to the right to column F.

Then pull the cells from A2 to F2 down until you get to 666666 (all 46656 rows).
See the attached where I haven't pulled the rows down all the way yet.

Re: how to input all combinations for 6 dice

Wow thanks. This is exactly what I was looking for. Excellent. I was wondering, is there something to add to the formula to isolate duplicates? Like something to highlight all unique values in the sequence of numbers? If not, no worries, I can do the rest of the work myself. I was just wondering if it's possible.

Thanks for the help MarvinP. I appreciate it.

The question is - what do you mean by duplicates? Are you adding the die values together so 121111 = 112111?
If the order of the dice is important (unique) then my workbook shows all possible rows (after you pull it down).

Not exactly. The workbook and/or formula you gave is perfect for doing what I initially wanted.
The next question is: can you use a formula like that to determine all possible combos that are like 123456, 654321, 132456...and so on. Like colour coding all of them or making them in bold after you get all 46656 combos. If not, I'll just manually go through them, it's no big deal.

    Hi,

I think a study of this page might help determine how many duplicates you have in the list I provided.
