Setting a max amount on a cell

Hi there,

Firstly, I am trying to use excel to create a month by month budget. Very simply I am trying to use a row and set a max amount in it. Is there a way for me to set the amount (eg: $100) and if the amount in it is over $100 it turns red and if it's under it turns green?

Second, I know how to take the sum of a row of cells, but is there a way to take the sum of remainders? (eg: referring to the question above, if there are cells that are both over an under the $100 limit can I add them up to see if I was overall under $100 and by how much, or over$100 and by how much?

Any insight is appreciated!

for the first one
yes that would be conditional formatting

some reading on this topic here (with sample file to play around with)

second:
probably but will need to see how it looks

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachements to open the upload window.

Hi, welcome to the forum

Agree with Humding that a sam,ple workbook would help, but how about if you just add all those values, then count how many values you have times 100, and subtract that?

=SUM(range)-(counta(range)*100)
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
