I copy a worksheet in the same book which is not an issue but when I want to change the sheet reference in the new copied worksheet I get a window requiring me to designate a workbook. I just need to change the sheet reference ( in the same workbook) in the new copied sheet.

What you mean by 'sheet reference' ?
How are you doing it?
You must realize that if the worksheet has cells with formulas they might 'loose track' of where to look and then you will be prompted for a workbook or other reference.
I suggest you explain a little more what you're doing and how you're doing it.
