    Comparing two cells

I have a name in A1. Let's say John Smith. This is formatted as TEXT

I have a table of data starting in cell C1 and going down to cell F50.

Column C contains names as per A1. Columns D, E, and F contain other data.

Columns C-F contains a CSV data from an internet site.

    When I do a Vlookup,

    , I get an N/A error.

I can see the name in Column C, but obviously Excel doesn't see it.

If you understand what I'm asking, can you help me help

Off the top of my head.....Is the list of names in column C in alphabetical order? It needs to be for VLOOKUP to work properly.

No, it does not need to be in alphabetical order unless VLOOKUP is using the TRUE (approximate match) argument - here the FALSE (exact match) argument is being used.

It’s much more likely to be a trailing space in one of the cells containing the name.

    Re: Comparing two cells

When I do a TEXT TO COLUMNS on the imported data, column C, it's not seeing any spaces between the first and last name.
