Excel Chart increase size of Horizontal area

Sorry for the cryptic text, but I would the like to increase the size of the Horizontal area but I am unable to do so

I have increased the size of the font to 20 and as you can see it will not fit.

What is going on?? How can I make that area bigger, or does it only "grow" if I increase the chart size.?

Ideally I would like to have the text for every column in an angle under the bar (if that is possible)

Edit: I tried to post in the "Chart" area, but It said I am not allowed to post a new thread there.

Try reducing the size of the Plotarea. Move the bottom of the plot area up to allow more space between horizontal axis and bottom of chart object.

If you do then reduce the width of the chart object check the horizontal axis Label settings, and check Interval between category labels = 1, in order to show all labels

Re: Excel Chart increase size of Horizontal area

    Thx a Lot!

b...... h......., you have no I idea how long I have been struggling with this

Now for the following to get the text in an Angle of -45deg under the columns.

Will report back if I need help hahahahaahaha

    Thx again, really appreciated.

Ps: Interval between Category was set to Auto and when I resized it, it was not showing them all but changing it to 1 solved that. I have to (I think) change the text to be shorter I guess.

When I change the alignment to Text Direction = Horizontal and Custom Angle = -45deg the text gets cut-off again.

Tried resizing the Plot area but doesn't help.

try change the label so years are 2 digits rather than 4 and remove the line feeds, replacing with spaces

Re: Excel Chart increase size of Horizontal area

    Thx again.

I was already thinking of decreasing the size of text, but is there NO other way?

If I may I ask why is it not possible to resize that area? I am not printing it (it just won't fit on a A4 / Letter) but I just want to have it fit for screen (big screen I have )

    Andy pope, really appreciated.

Re: Excel Chart increase size of Horizontal area

You can not control the size of the area used for axis labelling. Best you can do is size and position plot area, change font size and label text to get desired result. but it is not always possible.

You could get rid of the category labels and create your own using a dummy series.

Re: Excel Chart increase size of Horizontal area

Can you explain to me how this works? I still don't understand it

And is there any reason why standard you can't extend the area for the Horizontal area?

Re: Excel Chart increase size of Horizontal area

The reason you can not extend the area is the MS did not provide that functionality, either manually or via code.

I added a new series, with values of zero. Added data labels to the series showing category text. The data labels can then be rotated without loss of text.
The true horizontal axis labels were then set to None.
