When I hi-lite values in column (B) they don't add up in the bottom right area for Average Count Sum
Only the Count will show a total.
In column (C) it works?

The values in B are text, not numbers.

As Ali has said, the values in column B are text. Those in column C are numeric. The difference is that you (or someone) has manually entered the dollar sign followed by a space. If you do a global replace of "$ " by nothing, it should convert the values to numbers.
