    Automatically making mondays bold

    Hello all,

I have a simple spreadsheet running, in column 1 I have the date in the following format; 15/02/2005, is there a way to make every seventh day (equating to a monday) appear in bold text? It is a bit of a pain doing it manually.

    Cheers

    Phil

    Use Conditional Formatting
Highlight all the cells you want to apply this to.
Click on Format > Conditional Formatting
In the first drop down on the left side of the window choose Formula is
In the space to the right of that type =WEEKDAY(A1)=2
(Assuming your first cell inthe highlighted column is A1)
Now click on the Format button
On the Font Tab choose Bold
    Click OK and OK again

    You're done!

Thanks but that is how I have been doing it, I want to know if there is a way for it to do it automatically. I had one once where I could do it, every time the word monday appeared it made the cell bold, this one, I don't want the word Monday in the cell, is there a way to click on one cell that is a Monday and thensay "make every seventh one from here bold???

    Cheers

    OK
I don't see how what I said is the same as what you were doing. You said you were doing it manually for each cell. I told you to highlight ALL the cells you want it to apply to and then apply the condition formatting once to all of them. After doing it that one time you don't have to do it again.
Did you highlight ALL the cells before doing the CF, including the ones you will be using in the future?

In order to have it adjustable you could have the formula in the CF refer to a cell as opposed to a value. In other words change the formula to =WEEKDAY(A2)=$A$1. This assumes your dates will be in column A starting in Row 2
Do what I said in my previous post but highlight all the cells from A2 down as far as you want (click on A2 and, while holding the shift key, hit the Page Down key as many times as is necessary to highlight the range to the size you want). Now do your Conditional Formatting with the =WEEKDAY(A2)=$A$1
When finished type a 2 in A1 - all dates with a Monday will turn bold (as will all future dates you type into the highlighted range). Change the value in A1 to a 3 and all dates with a Tuesday will turn bold and the Mondays will return to normal.
