Spreadsheet to work with map software

I need to be able to link my spreadsheet data with some sort of city- type of map software. Does anyone know of a way to do this? My spreadsheets contain information about specific intersections throughout the city / county and I'd like to be able to call up specific positions or itersections within a map software from within my Excel document.

Can this be done? Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've heard of Microsoft MapPoint but I've never used it. I've seen several other map softwares available but I need something that will work with spreadsheets and isn't too difficult to use. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you for your time on this matter.

I did something like what you're talking about.

I copied a picture of a city map onto a workshheet.
Then, using the drawing toolbar, I drew a small rectangle on top of the intersection on the map. I right clicked on the rectangle and chose Hyperlink. I gave a reference to an area on another sheet in the workbook where my data was concerning that intersection. Then I formatted the rectangle to have no border and no fill colour. The result was that the rectangle was invisible but when you mouse over the intersection on the map the cursor becomes the pointing finger and the Screen Tip that I applied to the Hyperlink appeared beside it. Clicking on the intersection then took the user to the data on the other sheet.

It's a pretty simple way of doing it and doesn't need any software other than Excel.
