Lost Column

I accidently hit a combination of keys at one time that converted the row numbers at the left to colored, and showed plus (+) symbols where there were hidden rows. This was GREAT - and I thought to myself "how handy...I'll remember that!" and of course, I can't recreate it now. Can anyone tell me what the heck I did and how to do it again?!?
