    I have 3 cells i would like to put together in one to look like
    this RS0001_19671109

    The cells are
    A2(RS) B2(0001) C2(1967-11-09)

    =A1&B2&"_"&SUBSTITUTE(C2,"-","")

    However, if cell C2 is an actual date, rather than text, you will need:

    =A2&B2&"_"&TEXT(C2,"YYYYMMDD")
