Need Combining data from two sheets

I am under a major time crunch with my data, have searched this forum, tried to have MIcrosoft help me, and even tried to hire a consultant from this site. All, thus far, not working or not heard back.

Here's the problem: Need to combine data from 2 sheets both of which have a unique person identifying number, but contain different data. ONe sheet is ID#, date of birth, gender while the other has multiple entries of ID#, procedures, date of service, diagnosis codes. Also need to convert text of "male" or "female" to "M" or "F" and calculate age (in years only) from birthdate.

Have tried to learn the VLOOKUP thing, and DATEIF thing and pivot table ideas but it's totally not working and this project has a severe cut-off with no recourse if not done on time.

Can anyone help? Keep in mind I have virtually no knowledge of Excel and just bought 2007 for this project alone (sorry)

    Hi,

Why don't you upload a zipped copy of your workbook, to get precise answers ... and get you started ...?

Wow, that was fast! One of the files is 168kb after putting it into a zipped folder (don't know if I have another compression software) and it won't upload. Can you override that limit in this case?

    Hi,

Take a look at the link below and search for "Sites for uploading files"

Sorry...not getting the idea yet. Saw some upload sites on that post. Should I try and put the files there? Would it be better to compress further or (arghhh) cut down the bigger file?

Yes unload the file or download a free zip file programme.

Or as you suggest just post a sample of the data

I'm a bit nervous about posting data on an anonymous site, just downloaded WinZIp and the 2 files total at 212kb. Is there no other way?

    Hi,

All you need to do is to make up a dummy workbook with 2 sheets in it exactly with your headings as you have got them on both sheets and a few rows of data just to give everybody a glimpse of what you are trying to do. Don't forget we're not looking over your shoulder at the same screen you are looking at, so it's sometimes difficult to "see" the problem.

Also there no need to feel nervous about posting to this site, there's more than enough people only willing to help.

To post a zipped example, go to “My Documents” or wherever you have your sample file stored, right-click and “Send to > Compressed file”, then attach this to your post.

    Good luck
