Data Overlapping Other Columns

I'm trying to figure out how to prevent data from overlapping other columns. What I have is a column with long descriptions customers have written about themselves. These can be very long. As it is now, this data instead of showing just a partial bit of it and hiding the rest. It expands out of the column overlapping other columns, making it impossible to read the other columns data.

I tried using the Word Wrap option but it resized the rows and columns to large.

I need to figure out how to set the column to only show the amount of data equal to the width of the column, then hide the rest of the data, until I click on a row and that rows data shows up in the FX box above where I can edit it.
