    Exclamation Matching cell contents

Hi, I am doing an employee schedule / vacation update in excel. I have one work sheet that has dates (for each week) in columns, employees in rows and the matrix is the shift (8-4, etc). I am having another worksheet, with employee names and dates they want to be on vacation.

In sheet 1, for each week, I want the shift to be updated to vacation, if the employee name has a corresponding date listed (for vacation), on that date in sheet 1.

The thing is, there are 3 shifts and the employees name moves in the first column to match with the shifts every week, so the cell is not fixed. Similarly, since it is done only for a week at a time, the dates change every week. I was wondering how to match the date-employee data on the vacation sheet, for any match of the same in the schedule sheet and get it updated, every time?

Thanks for any pointers, appreciate all the help.
    Bala.

This sounds a bit complicated. Can you zip and attach a copy of your workbook so we can see what you are working with?

If you attach a sample of your workbook it will be easier to find a solution. Remember to remove/replace sensitive data before uploading the file. Look here if you need help with attachments:

    Thanks

Hi, It is complicated and we realized it is way beyond my excel skills. Anyways, we decided to go with a software that is already out there for employee schedules. Thanks again for your offer to help!

It might be a good idea to start a new thread and attach a zipped copy of your workbook.
