    Mystery extra space

On a column of currency entries I had two cells with an extra space at the end of the dollar amount. With one of the cells I reentered the number in case I put a space there. I tried formating the cell alignment. Neither moved the number to the right side of the cell. I then copied the format from another cell in the column and that fixed it. I know I could easily do that again for the other misaligned cell but I am curious about what is different about this cell that leaves the extra space.Extra space in cell.jpg

    Re: Mystery extra space

    Hi there,

It always makes things a LOT easier when we have a sample workbook rather than a screenshot to work with. With a workbook we can experiment - with a screenshot we just have to guess

My guess is that the Horizontal Alignment property of the "problem cell" has a value specified for Right Indent, but it could just as easily be a custom specification for the Number property of that cell.

    Regards,

    Greg M

Cannot replicate your issue. When I open your file, all is aligned to the right. See below.

    Re: Mystery extra space

It probably was imported from other program.
You can fix it by add 0 to them without format every cells.

Place cursor at any blank cell
    Copy
    Hightlight destination area
    Paste special/Operation: Add
    OK

    Re: Mystery extra space

    I can reproduce the problem.

D5 abd D6 (these cells are right up against the right margin) have a value of $400.00 and are formatted as currency with negative numbers formatted as black with a preceding negative sign like: -1234.00

D8 and D12 (these cells appear to be indented) both have values of $400.00 and both cells are formatted as currency with negative numbers to be formatted in red with brackets like: (1234.00)

Currency format tries to align the decimal point across all rows and so the D8, D12 format needs to leave space for the right bracket for negative numbers.

You can fix your problem by selecting col-D and using the same currency format variant for all cells.

    Re: Mystery extra space

Thanks. What I've done is format the negative numbers after entering them and I don't know why that positive cell got formated that way. I will reformat the whole column.
