Tools > Options, Edit tab, tick Fixed decimal, Places: 2
Entia non sunt multiplicanda sine necessitate
thank you, that worked when I entered the number into a blank cell. But what if I want to change the number 1000 that already exists in a cell into the number 10.00?
Okay, while technically, the value will still be 1000, if you are just trying to do quick data entry, you can put a mask on the data.
To do this:
1. Highlight all applicable cells
2. Go to the "Format" Menu
3. Click on "Format Cells"
4. Click on the "Number" Tab
5. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the list on the left hand side and choose "Custom"
6. You will see a box on the right hand side under the word "Type:"
Type this into the box: #"."##
There you have it!!
Just be very careful if you need to do any calculations because the value will still be 100X more than what it looks like.
Hope this helps!
...I came across this a while ago when I was used to entering items into a printing calculator where I could set the decimal point, and I didn't understand why excel could not do the same thing...
