Add words in a row as a total number in another?

    Hi All,

    Hope someone can help.

I really do not know whether my query is workable hence I don't know how I would search so please forgive me if it has already been dealt with.

I was wondering whether it is possible to add up a word, say 'Sick' in columns Mon - Fri and to get a number total in another column in the same row so that if someone is off 'Sick' for three days it will total '3' in the relevant cell.

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

    Gary.

Hi Gary and welcome to the forum.

Assuming your Mon to Fri columns are say C1:G1 then use the following function

    Hi Richard,

Thanks for such a speedy response.
That would be great however my the columns are spaced apart so I Imagine I can't us a range. Or can I?
I intend to do the same for other words e.g Leave, Authorised etc.

    Cheers.

    EDIT:

I have tried it as a range and it works fine along with my other entries.
    Thanks so much Richard.
