Question display of sketches through browsing.

i have a work book with 50 work sheets. In one of the work sheets ( say sheet no.39) there are 26 sketches each labeled as a to z. In my work sheet no.7 i have developed a list through data validation in which letters from a to z appear in scrolling. I want the related sketches in sheet no.39 to be displayed along side the list (Sheet no.7) during browsing of the list from a to z.

One approach would be to use named ranges and a link picture object.

    Dear andy pope

The quality of image displayed vide the method suggested by you dt:21.04.10 is not good even though the source sketch is very good. The source sketch is drawn by using excel drawing tools.

Can you suggest a method by which the quality of display can be enhanced.

    thanking you,

    regards,

What changed between it "working beautifully" and "not good" ?

Can you post a cut down version with just a couple of images so we can see what "not good" really means.

    Dear Mr. Andy Pope,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Please find attached my excel worksheet for displaying pictures as per the method suggested by you.

In this connection i wish to inform you that the following defects i have observed:
    1. There is considerable delay in displaying the picture after choosing from the drop down menu.
    2. The quality of the picture displayed is not as good as the source picture which is drawn using excel drawing tools.
    3. I have sent to you only a part of my workbook. There are other computations involved apart from display of pictures. After adopting the method as shown in the attached file, the computations part has also slowed down.
Can you suggest how to rectify the above defects.

    Thanking you,
    regards,

All of those issues can be fixed simply by setting the zoom to 100%

Re: display of sketches through browsing.

    Dear Mr. Andy Pope,

I have made the source picture and display picture of the same size (width and height in pixels). After that the distortion in the displayed picture is considerably reduced. However there is considerable delay in the display of picture after choosing from the drop down menu. Also the operation of the whole work book has slowed down considerably in the sense that not only the display but also the movement of cursor is also slowed down in the work book.

Kindly suggest how to improve the same.

For your information similar displays are there at 4 work sheets in my work book consisting of about 40 work sheets.

The following is the configuration of my system.
    Intel(R) Pentium (R) Dual CPU
    E 2180 @ 2.00 GHz
    2.00GHz, 960 MB RAM
Operating system is MS Windows XP

Re: display of sketches through browsing.

Can you confirm that you changed the Zoom setting of the worksheet to 100%.

For me the delay was completely removed by simply altering the zoom.

Re: display of sketches through browsing.

I confirm that i have changed the zoom setting to 100% and then only sent you my query.

Even after changing the zoom setting 100% the following defects persisted.

    1. The system has considerably slowed down.

    a. Cursor is not moving freely and taking lot of time to respond to the commands from
    mouse.
    b. Microsoft excel is not responding is displayed frequently on screen.
    c. It is taking lot of time for me to put input as the movement between cells is getting
    delayed .

I have tried to run the workbook on my laptop also but the same problem is persisting.

    Kindly advise.

    regards,

Re: display of sketches through browsing.

I would try making all the grouped images fit within a single cell in column B, currently the outer group size extends into the surrounding cells.

If that does not work try changing the grouped shapes in to Images.
Home > Clipboard > Paste > As Picture > Copy As Picture.

    Dear Andypope,

I have followed your advice of copying the picture via clipboard and my problem is solved.

    Thank you very much.
