Calculation of a percentage reduction formula

    Hi Guys

I am new to Excel and would like to know if anyone can give me advice on creating a formula, within a cell.

Basically I have to calculate a sliding scale % reduction for every £60 after £6000 and up to £12000. ie at £6060 a 99% reduction is gained, at £6120 it is 98%, £6180 it is 97%. At the other end of the scale £11,940 is 1%, £11,880 is 2%, £11,820 is 3% etc. I need the calculation to work reflect 0.5% ie £6030 would be 99.5%, £11,970 would be 0.5%.

Could anybody please give me a formula to copy & paste or advise if this is possible?

Any help would be really appreciated!

Re: Calculation of a percentage reduction formula

I don't really understand what you're looking to calculate exactly...

In theory you can calculate the discount % for any given value

    =1-((MEDIAN(0,6000,A1-6000)*(1/60)%))

where A1 holds the value - the above will give you the discount %
(note: the above would generate 100% for anything <= 6000 and 0 for anything >= 12000 - not sure if that's the requirement or not)

does that help in any way ?

Many thanks DonkeyOte for your help - that worked a treat - just what I was looking for!
One day I'll get the hang of Excel - it is a brilliant tool.
