Auto update from 4 wkbks to a separate 5th wkbk

    Hi Guys,
I am at a total loss as to how to achieve the following: -
I have 4 Workbooks (all the same but referencing different subject matter) I would like to automatically feed specific data from each (the selected data fields will all be the same) and merge it into a 5th Workbook, so a Master List is formed.
    Example:
    All 4 workbooks fields a1 = serial number, b1 = name, c1 = subject etc.
How can I get all this onto Workbook 5 in a continuous daily way - without the previous days input being overwritten?
I am a newby with Excel and this goes beyond me, so I request any help put as simply as possible.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi dustyv
    I assume that a1 = Serial Number so that a2 a3 a4 . . . are Serial Number
and the same apply to b1, and c1

Now to just grab the content using formula is quite simple for this one.
in the 5th Workbook, you mention you already have previous input which i assume also take from 1st to 4th workbook (by using manual and you want it automatic right?)
Make sure all workbook are opened now, then just use formula in 5th workbook so the cell point to each workbook, start by =, then click the other workbook, then click the cell that you want to take it's value, after that it's done. you can then copy down, so everything is automatically feeded in 5th workbook.

Is this what you are looking for?

    blastranger,
The OP is looking for 4 sheets onto 1 - your solution is great for replicating one sheet onto another, but doesn't allow for the other three.

    dustyv,
Which version of Excel are you using? It would help everyone if you edited this in you user control panel.

    Cheeky Charlie,
Thank you for your reply and the prompt re version - job done now.
    It's version 2003.

I agree with your remark to 'blastranger' - that isn't what I am looking for, although I am very grateful to him for his input.

    Thanks guys.

erm maybe I missed the step. after you copy down and ensure all value in your first workbook is filled in the 5th workbook, then you keep going by using the same method to take the 2nd, 3rd and 4th workbook into the 5th

But those newly added value in 1st to 4th workbook would not auto filled, in this case when there are newly added value you need to reupdate the 5th workbook again. (I guess this is the problem now)

Anyway I also very interested to know is there a way to never reupdate it, all are updated accordingly whether there are newly added value or no

dusty you can achieve this by setting up a data query to select and union all the source workbooks.
What are your workbook names and filepaths?
