Basic Query about what type of Forumla to use?

    Hello

Apologies if my title is wrong, i'm fairly new to the terminology and methods in Excel and i've got a query about how to use different forumla's to work out the following:

    10 People
    April 2011 - March 2011.
Each person has 25 days holiday.
One person has taken 3 days in April.

Do i use IF Forumla's, Count forumla's or Conditional Formatting or other to work out the number of days left and to use as a self calculation for other cells?

Clearly a very informative forum and hopefully i can learn a lot from everyone.

    Many thanks

    Gaz

    Gaz,

Welcome to the forum. I'm having a hard time picturing what your workbook looks like and why you would need something other than a SUM formula. I've attached a sample workbook of what I envision yours looks like based on the information you provided. If it is not correct, please upload a sample workbook so that we can better help you.

Thank you for the welcome and quick response.

I think looking back you are right, i've been playing around with so much conditional formatting lately that on a task like this i've taken my eye off the fact that all i needed was to add a total column and possibly use a more basic SUM forumla.

Originally i think i was looking at a format that would cover all the cells that was not written in the actual worksheet, but i've had a play around (added all the months in each column) and attached it below.

    Cheers

    Allblackdup,

Attached is a modified version of your Leave spreadsheet. In cell N2 is the following formula:
    =25-SUM(B2:M2)

    Then I copied down

    Hope that helps,
