Cell formula displaying as field Header

    Hi guys,
I have this very annoying problem i cannot solve for the life of me.

I want to use a "sum" formula so I type "=sum" then click the cell (B1) i want to add but instead of showing "=SUM(B1" for example if will show "=SUM([@[Trainer Code]])..."

I.e B1 is under the field name "Trainer code" but i don't want it to show @Trainer Code, i just want it to show B1.

I don't know how to get it back to showing standard cells. Im using excel 2011 and its on a MAC.

Please someone help. its driving me crazy.

    Thanks in Advance.

    David.

    Hello,

Please update your profile to reflect the Excel version you actually use. Your profile says Excel 2003. Your narrative says you're using 2011 Mac. The suggestions we can give here will depend on a correct assessment of your Excel version, because things differ considerably between versions and platforms. So, if you expect to get meaningful help, please help us help you and make sure your system information is correct.

If you just want to show the value of cell B1, then use

    =B1

No need to wrap it in a SUM() function.

If the cell is in an Excel table, then you may want to check the settings for whether or not to use Table names in formulas.

I don't run Excel for Mac. In Excel 2010 for Windows (which is similar to 2011 for Mac) the setting to check is File > Options > Formulas > check/uncheck "Use table names in formulas"

If you uncheck that option, you can click a table column heading in a formula and it will not convert to the reference for the full table column, but instead use the single cell reference.

    cheers,
