    filter and subtotal

    Hi all
I am using the dutch version of excel so probably I mention dutch functions
    my query is as follows

Starting sheet1 filter on client B
I need to know the total the weight and pcs per box for client B (see result sheet 2)

I cannot figure this out on sheet1 I only succeeded this on sheet2
by copying the filtering to sheet2
(paste only for value and notation)

    On sheet2 Menu > data >subtotal
box / sum for pcs and weight
the box + totalbox is visible

On the upperleft part of sheet 2 press 2 , the boxes disappear, only the totalbox pcs/weight still visible

This is excactly what I need
There must be an easier way to handle this on sheet 1 only, instead of copying from sheet 1 to sheet 2

Thanks in advance for your prompt solution
    Best regards
    Ron

    Re: filter and subtotal

    Hey Ron;

Sorry, took me a few minutes to work through your problem.

The problem is that the subtotal function is dependent on the order of the raw data. Therefore, if you're trying to gather information by Client, you will need to perform a primary Sort on the Client in Sheet 1, and if you're looking to count particular boxes per client, add in a secondary Sort on Box. From there, you can run the subtotal:

    "At each change in" Client
    Use Count
    Add Subtotal to: Box

I'm not sure what business requirements you have over the sorting of the data in Sheet 1, but that would be the way to save you a step in the process.

    Best of luck!

    Re: filter and subtotal

    Hi Miraun

Sorry I put you on the wrong leg.
The business is stuffing seacontainers a new excel sheet has been attached.

I don' t want to count the boxes I need to have the sum of what is in it per exporter.
In the meantime I succeeded to construct a macro (out of several short macros) which will do what I want, but I think it is to complicated.
Hopefully you can help me in VBA to get rid of the wording Totaal(containernumber)
in such a way that only the containernumber is mentioned
in the sheet I used the function = substitute (A1;"Totaal ";"") but in VBA it gives an error
I also like to have copied the name of exporter in column E

Thanks in advance for your help
    Best regards
    Ron
