Calculation on Accumulated Hours:Minutes

I am a new Excel user trying to build a drivers Hours of Service calculator in an Excel 2003 spreadsheet to determine how many [hh]:mm the driver has available the next day. I cannot figure out how to subtract Accumulated Hours for the last 7 days(C2) from the weekly allowable 70:00 hrs and provide the calculation in (D2) with the [hh]:mm format.

C2 is Accumulated Hours last 7 days
i.e. 43:01

D2 would be (70 hrs - C2) to show Hours Available Tomorrow
i.e. 26:59



When I try to perform the calculation, I get the answer 1636:59. Is it a simple format error, or is there a special function I need to use to perform the calculation?

D2 should be ="70:00" - C2

Try this>> ="70:00"-C2
