Not really sure what is happening. Sometimes when I click on one cell it constantly highlights 3 cells, often no matter where I click on the spread sheet. Any ideas what I've done?

Check you haven't turned on Extend mode by pressing F8. If so you'll see EXT in the bottom right of your Excel window.

Cheers for that, but it's not that; when I press F8 it shows the EXT bottom left and then instead of highlighting 3 cells by accident it highlights 9

Only certain workbooks, and certain sheets; I think I must hace accidently changed a setting on certain cells but I haven't got a clue what I have done.
Do you have merged cells?
Nope, not merged cells.
Any macros in those workbooks?
