    Hiding rows based on cells

Is there a way to hide a rang of rows based on the value of certain cells?
In my financing spreadsheet, I want to have input areas under certain categories, say, Groceries, Clothing, Household Items, etc.
Right now, I have 5 rows dedicated to each category. Is there a way I can increase that to something like 25 rows, but only leave one blank row in the category showing, and have another row show when I enter data into the the blank row? Basically so I don't have 400+ rows of spreadsheet.

    Example:
Say row 35 is Groceries, and the columns are Date > Amount > Type (Cash, credit, debit, check)
Row 36 to row 61 would be empty, and the input rows for the category.
Row 62 will be a totals row, totaling the amount from rows 36 to 61.

So I would like to hide all but the first after 36 until I enter data in 36, then have an additional row show itself, and so on and so on.

Is this possible, and if so, how would I do it?

    Thanks.

Re: Hiding rows based on cells

There are two ways I would consider doing this:

    1) Move TOTAL to the top, like Row 2 right under the category label. Then you don't have to hide rows between the input lines and the TOTAL line. This is easy for software but can be unintuitive to read because it is the opposite of convention.

    2) Filter based on the label column; just remove (blank) from the display field of the Filter dropdown.
