Sidestepping the Text Import Wizard & Formatting Problems

The original file that I have is pipe delimited and I need to change the dates (in red) from general to date and the numbers (in yellow) from general to text which keeps leading zeroes.

The problem is that I haven’t been able to create a macro that keeps leading zeroes.

Is this possible and is there a way to extract the file without using the Text Import Wizard?

Try recording a macro while using the text import wizard. On the final step of the wizard, you can set the formatting of the individual columns.

Martin - I tried recording in the text import wizard but got a message box "Too many line continuations"
    Any idea why this happened?

    Here's one I recorded

If your dataset is wider, then you might have gone over the maximum number of _ line continuations.

Correct. I tried to delete some of the continuations but that produced another error. I'll give your code a try.
    Many thanks!
