    Drop down list?

    Hello,
If I wanted a specific column to have a drop down list, How would I do that?

    Example: Cell C5 is titled Driver and I want cells c6 through c30 to have a select-able drop down list of the drivers Paul - 125, Bryan - 126, David - 128, Steve - 130, Heather - 134.
    Thank you

    Re: Drop down list?

Most people will typically create another tab that will be hidden and put their list such as:

    A1 Paul - 125
    A2 Bryan - 126
    A3 David - 128
    A4 Steve - 130
    A5 Heather - 134

Make this list and select the cell you want as a drop down. Goto the Data Tab, then Data Validation. Under the Settings tab, click the drop down that says Allow: Any Value. Change this to Allow: List.
Under the Source: put the range of the list you typed up, or you can press the button to the right and highlight it. Voila! Drop down list!!
You may hide the tab with the list by right clicking it and clicking Hide. You may unhide it by right clicking any tab and selecting Unhide.

    Re: Drop down list?

@ gedwards, if teh OP's version is 2007 or lower (doesnt really say), then data validation will not allow you to reference another worksheet directlty.

@ mhenders00, if those are the only names you will have, it might be easier to just put then in DV list box
    Click data/Data validation, select List, then in the Source box, just type in the names Paul - 125,Bryan - 126,David - 128,Steve - 130,Heather - 134

If you have more names than that, it may be better to create a small list of those names. If you can put them on the same sheet, then use List again, but instead of typing in the names, point to the range instead.

If you want to put the list on another worksheet, create your list, highlight that list and give it a range name (say, names) and then in the Source box type in =names
