Lightbulb Need to copy files to new location using column in Excel

    Hi all,

I am very new to writing macros in Excel and have been trying to find some coding to do what I am thinking is a simple task.

I have a folder in another drive that contains all the families I work with at my job. When I get a new project, I get a list of equipment families (Revit) for the project and would like to search in my folder and all the subfolders within, using a column in Excel. The list starts on C5 and continues down.

I would like to copy the .rfa files to another folder that is created from a cell content in Excel. I other words, I would like the user to be able to type in a location and name in Excel and have the macro copy all the .rfa files to that location, creating the folder in the process.

I would truly appreciate any help on this I can get. This would really save me a lot of hours having to find each one manually.

    It is certainly do-able, but:

What is entered in column C? What is the corresponding filename for that entry? Where would you enter the location and name for the folder creation? And where do you want the folder created?

    Bernie,

    Thanks for responding so quickly.

What is entered in column C? What is the corresponding filename for that entry?

Column C will have the entire file path of the where the .rfa file is located. The column I meant to say in the initial posting was B. Column B will have the name of the file with the .rfa on the end.

Where would you enter the location and name for the folder creation? And where do you want the folder created?

I would like to create a subfolder in the project folder. This of course will constantly change from project to project. I was thinking it would be great to have a userform set up so that the location could either be typed in or maybe even use a browser to determine the location. The name can always be the same for all projects.

I hope this helped. Please let me know if you need any more information.
