Referencing ListBox value in UserForm issues

I am getting some weird results from my code. I have a userform with two seperate listboxes and I simply am trying to show a message box warning if one of them (or both) does not contain a selection i.e. value and return the user to the form and not run the rest of the code.

It is making excel behave very weirdly, because sometimes it works fine and others only partially and others not at all- but there is no discernible pattern. So it might be that the code is fine but something else is going on, but I need to be able to say whether it is the issue or not so I can narrow down what is going wrong.

In case it matters - I am working in manual calculation mode.
