Any way to take an IP and resolve the name?

We get some security type scan reports that just have the IP of a machine that needs a patch. I'm looking for a way that I can have somethign take the IP from a cell, run a Ping -a or nbtstat or some other command to get the Name of the machine and then put that into the cell ext to the one containing the IP.

Anyone have a way to do this?

    Thanks!

    Hi kelemvor,

I think you may want something like whosip which is a freeware derivative of whois. whosip retrieves company information from the IP address. whosip.exe is freeware. See the following link which I think is a solution to a problem similar to yours:http://www.excelforum.com/excel-prog...is-lookup.html

After you run the Excel file, See Sheet2 for a dump of all the data that is obtained using whosip.exe. The information you want may be in that data.

For going the other way from URLs to IP addresses see the following link which implements your choice of ping, tracert, or nslookup: http://www.excelforum.com/excel-gene...ml#post3564802

I hope this helps. For additional help, please let me know what your input is and what you want as the expected output.

    Lewis
