Marking an x in a cell when I click and hightlighting a row(s) depending on one cells valu

Ok folks...I ended up on this forum after googling my excel question so I am hoping ya'll can help. I have two questions.

The first:
I would like to be able to click on a cell, have it place a value or symbol of some sort...x or check is fine. Then I need to column to do that as well but then I need that to work over at least 5 columns.


The second:
I would like to highlight a row depending on the word that is placed down a column of cells. IE I have a logbook for my insurance adjusters...I need to be able to highlight the row of information different colors depending on who's name I place in that cell.

Unfortunately there is no "on-click" option. There is an option for if you change from one selected cell to another so I will use that. Note that if the cell you click is already selected, nothing will happen. Also, since you didn't specify any range I will choose a range for you.

Read your sentence and see if it makes any sense to you.
