Adding marker to scatter plot that is the value of a cell

I am trying to make the markers on the scatter plot show as the value from a cell. I am using monthly data and want all historical months to show a marker of "o" and only the past three months show with text as a marker (JUL-14, AUG-14, SEP-14). I want the text to be the marker, not a marker with a text label.

See attached sheet. Column B is the desired marker for the scatter plot, Column C&D are the X and Y values in the scatter plot.

The data is arbitrary for example purposes only.

This example (http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/PointAtPoints.html ) shows how to create a custom shape and "paste" in onto special points in a series as the marker for those points. I'm almost certain you can do the same thing using wordart/text.

I don't think you will be able to "link" the text to a cell. This means that, each month that new data is added, you will need to recreate the "shapes" and paste them onto the desired data points.

Does the text really need to be a marker? Can you not remove the marker and just use data labels.
