    Calculating Gas Units to KWH

So as part of my job I have to convert Gas units on your meter to Kilowatt Hours (KWH), Trouble is the calculation isn't that easy to do off the top of your head, I was wondering if an excel spreadsheet could be used where as I enter the units used and pressed enter or tab and the KWH are displayed.

This is currently how to do it for both types of meter.

    Calculation for imperial gas meters

    Task Sample
    1) Number of units used Eg 100
    2) Convert from imperial to metric – multiply number of units used by 2.83 283
    3) Multiply by volume correction factor (1.022640) 289.407
    4) Multiply by calorific value (39.3) 11373.699
    5) Divide by kWh conversion factor (3.6) 3159.361
Note that the calorific value of your gas may be different, please consult your last gas bill for the right figure to use.

    Calculation for metric gas meters

    Task Sample
    1) Number of units used eg 100
    2) Multiply by volume correction factor (1.022640) 102.264
    3) Multiply by calorific value (39.3) 4018.975
    4) Divide by kWh conversion factor (3.6) 1116.382

Could this formula be put into an excel calculation

    ?? unit or units
    x 1.022640
    x 39.3
    / 3.6
    = kwh

    Thanks in advance

Re: Calculating Gas Units to KWH

    =((UNITS*1.022640)*39.3)/3.6

Would that not do the trick?

Hi and welcome and the answer is yes. If you put you gas units in cell A1 then type this formula elsewhere (say B1)

    = A1 * 11.16382

To attach a file to your post,
click advanced (next to quick post),
scroll down until you see "manage file",
click that and select "add files" (top right corner).
click "select files" find your file, click "open" click "upload" click 'done" bottom right. click "submit reply"

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window.
You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.

If that does not work, your file may be too big. Reduce it to contain just what you need to show your problem

Re: Calculating Gas Units to KWH

Gas_calc updated121.xlsx This is what I would like the document to look like
I would like to just enter the units whether Metric or Imperial in the blue sections and press enter or tab or another specific key and then have the answer auto filled in under kwh (kilowatt Hours), each formula is at teh top, but I'm no good at putting in the Fx formula to achieve this, Im using Excel 2007 at the moment

    Regards

    steve
