Search for Values that Multiple Search Words Share

Hello, I am creating a spreadsheet that I will use to search species and their habitats from information downloaded from the World Wilflife Fund's Wildfinder website. I have already created a spreadsheet that can do a simple filter to search for 1) Common Names 2)Ecoregion Names and 3)Ecoregion Codes. I.e. if I search for "Tiger" with the Common Name Button selected it would bring up a list of all the Ecoregions in which tigers are found. I would like to further enhance this spreadsheet to be able to input multiple species and find their common ecoregions. I.e. if I enter into the 4 different search boxes "Tiger", "Red Panda", "Sloth Bear", and "Rhino" with the Common Name button selected it would bring up a list of all the Ecoregion Names (with cooresponding Ecoregion Code) in which these four species share.
The info. is in the following format:
    Column A - Ecoregion Code, Column B - Ecoregion Name, Column C - Common Name, Column D - Class

What is the best way to organize my data to make what I want to do easiest?

Here is a portion of the original search file I created.

    Terrestrial Ecoregions-Mammals.xlsm

    Thanks,

    -Drew

Hi Drew and welcome to the forum,

You ask for the "easiest" which is a moving target. Using VBA code is harder than simply using table filters dropdowns. If you are going to enter more data you might like to use a Form view into your data.

I'd suggest adding a Form Icon to your Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) and see if that helps you deal with your data.

Thank you for the quick reply, I have added the form icon and am confused as to how this will help me search for ecoregions that multiple species share? Can you please elaborate?

    Hi Drew,

The Form tool will let you add or edit your data more effectively, if that is what you like.
For filtering using AND or OR you might look at the Custom Auto Filter feature built into Excel 2010. It will let you filter using many terms. Read about it at:

I think this is what you really want.

Re: Search for Values that Multiple Search Words Share

I understand, to accurately filter what I need I would then need to combine all the species that share the same ecoregion into a cell so I can search for ecoregions that share multiple species. I have posted a separate question in the forum about doing this as I think it is a separate question to my original post. Is there a way to have a form where I can enter in species names in multiple search boxes that would automatically filter ecoregion results below?
