Personal.xlsb

Hi all,

I have one excel document open, but then I go to open a blank one I get a notification saying the Personal.xlsb is locked for editing by me. In the other excel document I do not have the Personal.xlsb open and I have not macros created either.

Can anyone hep me figure out how to stop this?

You will always get this error if you have multiple instances of Excel running since that means you have multiple copies of personal.xlsb opening too. You either need to convert the workbook to an add-in (but then you need to create a menu system for any macros you have), or stick to one instance of Excel.

This notification only started to appear recently. Previously I have used macros in workbooks and saved them and opened them and others with no notification.

Why should it only be appearing now?

For whatever reason, you are now running a new instance of Excel rather than opening the workbook in an existing instance. The first thing to check is in Excel Options, in the Advanced section, near the bottom is an option called 'Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)' - make sure that is not checked. If it isn't, then I suggest running an Office Repair from the Control Panel.
